Harney is an Egyptian-American filmmaker, journalist and a mother who had the vision to pursue this project when she first heard about the illegal sterilization of minority Roma Czech women. Harney filmed this project with Czech TV journalist and filmmaker Libuse Rudinska. Harney teaches journalism, TV & film at the New Anglo-American College in Prague and freelances for the Prague Post.She worked in TV news production at ABC affiliate, WJLA in Washington, DC, and at NBC affiliate, WDIV in Detroit, MI. Her first documentary, Feng Shui of New York, was screened at the United Nations headquarters in 2004. Harney’s journalism work earned two national awards, the prestigious Writers Guild of America-East’s John Merriman Award in New York and the Christopher’s Making a Difference Award for a short documentary, Jimmy, which aired on TLC and Catholic TV. Harney earned her M.A. in International Broadcast Journalism & Public Affairs at American University in Washington, DC. She also is a graduate of the American University in Cairo, Egypt, where she was a journalist and radio broadcaster. Harney was born in Kuwait.
